Koralt – 3D Opening Sequence

Some projects begin with a client brief. Others are born from a desire to explore new creative territories.

Koralt belongs to the second category.

Conceived as an internal project at waaaw.studio, this 3D opening sequence was born from a desire to explore the visual language of cinematic productions and series available on streaming platforms.

The goal? To create a strong visual identity capable of establishing an atmosphere and suggesting a story from the very first seconds.

Rather than simply putting together beautiful images, we set out to build a genuine visual narrative, where every composition, every camera movement and every atmosphere contributes to creating an entire world.

An ideal creative playground to push our approach to 3D animation and art direction further, without the usual constraints of a client commission.

Creating an opening sequence that makes you want to discover a story… before it even begins.

For Koralt, we explored a sophisticated cinematic aesthetic inspired by contemporary opening sequences: carefully crafted compositions, refined lighting, detailed textures and immersive atmospheres.

The challenge was to bring all these elements together through a cohesive art direction, where every shot helps establish a strong visual identity.

On the production side, Blender was at the heart of the process, from modelling and animation to 3D rendering.

Materials and textures were then enhanced using Substance Painter, before the final compositing and post-production work in After Effects.

But beyond the tools, the real challenge was finding the right balance between technical expertise and artistic vision.

Because a beautiful 3D image is great. But an image that tells a story? Even better!

With Koralt, we explored a more cinematic approach to 3D imagery, where lighting, materials, framing and camera movements all contribute to a cohesive visual narrative.

This internal project allowed us to experiment with new techniques, refine our art direction and further develop our expertise in creating immersive 3D worlds.

A creative exploration that directly strengthens our expertise and opens up new possibilities for designing opening sequences, audiovisual content and visual experiences.

Because sometimes, just a few seconds are enough to make you want to discover an entire world.
