The story

To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, Golden Palace, a group operating in the casino and online gaming industry, commissioned waaaw.studio to create an immersive animation for its RENO casino in Antwerp, Belgium.

The objective: to transform the reception area into a spectacular visual experience, capable of attracting attention from the street and immersing visitors in the world of Chinese New Year.

Thanks to an installation of LED screens covering the walls and ceiling, the interior architecture becomes a true canvas for creative expression. A digital scenography where images, movement and depth come together to bring a world inspired by Chinese folklore to life.

The Challenge

Creating a dragon in 3D animation was one thing. Making it travel across multiple LED screens installed on the walls and ceiling was another!

To meet this challenge, our team developed an approach combining art direction, technical research and animation design within a three-dimensional environment. The objective was to adapt the dragon’s movements to the different surfaces and perspectives, without distracting visual distortions.

On the creative side, the character had to embody the power and elegance of the traditional Chinese dragon while maintaining a friendly and approachable personality.

We combined 2D illustration, VFX compositing and 3D animation to create the environments and bring the dragon to life. A collaborative production bringing together several areas of waaaw.studio’s expertise to deliver a cohesive immersive experience.

The WAAAW Effect

The result? A majestic dragon that takes over the space, soars above the scenery and appears to travel from one screen to another, transforming the RENO casino into an immersive visual world.

The creation was also adapted for the screen network across other Golden Palace casinos, with versions tailored to different display formats: panoramic, circular and particularly elongated screens.

A way to extend the experience beyond Antwerp while preserving the campaign’s visual identity.

And to discover the result in real-world conditions, the waaaw.studio team was invited to Antwerp. Seeing the dragon come to life in its final environment, observing the installation from the street and experiencing its immersive effect: a wonderful reward after the creative and technical challenges of this production.
