The story
As part of a cinema-themed event, organized by Nouvelle Dimension for a Belgian energy network operator, waaaw.studio was tasked with setting the tone right from the show’s very first minutes.
The entire branding of the congress drew inspiration from cult movies, and our mission was simple: deliver an opening worthy of a blockbuster.
Fun fact: this was also the very first project Romain worked on during his graduation internship — a grand debut for him too.
The Challenge
The convention’s opening act: a VFX introduction featuring a flying DeLorean, straight out of Back to the Future.
In our cinematic sequence, the host arrives in the legendary car, soars over the Lotto Mons Expo, lands, and heads straight into the event.
And then — the magic: at that exact moment, the host walks on stage… driving a real DeLorean customized just like in the iconic movie.
Guaranteed WAAAW effect!
To pull this off, we went fully in-house:
- Complete 3D modeling of the DeLorean.
- Drone footage of the venue for compositing and motion tracking.
- Green screen shoot with the host (comedian Richard Ruben), integrated seamlessly into our sequence.
A meticulous mix of precision, technology… and a lot of fun.

When the virtual meets the real at the perfect moment, the audience no longer knows what’s happening — and that’s exactly what we wanted.
This type of sequence leaves no room for error, but when everything clicks, the result is spectacular.
Our team was also on site managing the show, and it turned into a resounding success.
